January 24 ~ 10min or so ~ I substituted for first grade, I read to the students a book called "Dog Breath". The family's last name that owned the dog was Tosis, the dog's name was Hally. I thought this was pretty clever of the author, "Hally Tosis" *halitosis*. I had not pre-read the story before reading to the kids, so I didn't get the dog's name until half way through the story. I had used some pre-reading questions with the kids about the cover of the book and what they thought the book would be about by the title of the book. The class all laughed and had their share of stories to share about stinky breath. It was a cute story about a dog with stinky breath so bad that the family was going to have to get rid of him. Then Hally caught thieves trying to break into the Tosis family home, so Hally Tosis got to stay with the family. I tried to explain the dog's name association with the title of the book, they didn't find the humor like I did, or else they didn't quite understand it. Either way I absolutely love reading to kids!!
January 25 ~ 30min ~ Read the website beyonddiet.com. This is a website about eating healthy to lose weight. I ordered a book and am looking forward to reading this. The website has a lot of information about healthy eating. I wasn't thrilled about having to pay anything, but I need to drop about 15-20pounds (if possible) for a trip to Florida in June and I want to do it with exercise and eating right.
January 27 ~ 60 min~ Read some of a children's bible to my 7yr old daughter Jill. Read Facebook. Tried to start a book called "The Time Machine," I couldn't get into it, so I put it down and began surfing the internet. Helped my 11year old look for a science fair project, so we read about a lot of different types of possible science projects. Then I began reading on the internet. I found an article about a Canadian man who was looking for individuals that look alike but are not related. He claims that everyone has a look alike twin somewhere in the world. There were 28 pictures and most were from Montreal with a few being from Germany, Switzerland, and Paris. I thought most of the pictures did look like twins. He is not looking form people who look like famous people but for example, there is someone out there that looks like me other than my daughters. ;)
I also read an article about how giving ibuprofen to children could cause kidney damage. If children are given ibuprofen when they are dehydrated this is when problems could arise.
Another article I found was an article "14 tips for treating kids colds". Some of the information provided I did already know, but I did pick up on a few new pieces of information.
I also read some of the member questions posted on beyonddiet.com.

January 14-20, 2013
January14, 2013-6:15-7:30pm Tonight I read to my youngest daughter, 7yr old, Jill. She has learned to read and very fluently for her age. She chose a book from the library, Fancy Nancy, Hair Do's and Don'ts, I followed along as she read. Then she asked me to finish reading the Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business book which she had started. We began reading every other page, then I took over. I have always loved reading to my children, now that my youngest is reading, I indulge in the time she asks me to read to her.
I read Facebook several times throughout the day, I am not sure this counts as pleasure reading, but it is reading so I thought I would put this in my blog.
January 16th 10:00-10:10- I read a little in the book Barnabus, it is a book from my bible study. I have been teaching 3rd grade Wed. night bible class for the last 6+months. We have rotated teachers, therefore I am now in the women's class. They are reading the book Barnabus, they are well into chapter 5, so I took it upon myself to begin reading to catch up, but only read for 10 minutes.
January 18- 10:00-10:20am, 10:25-10:45am: I substituted for the Librarian. I read a book to Kindergartners called The Three Pig Ninjas. Normally, this book would have only taken 5 minutes to read, but before I read the story we discussed the cover of the book and how the story was similar to The Three Little Pigs. It also had several words that I discussed with the class as I read the story. I had to stretch the book into a 20 minute class period so there was a lot of interaction during this reading. I had two classes that I read this book to.
The pleasure reading that I did this week were to my daughter, to Kindergarteners and my bible class. I am not sure if my bible class counts as class reading since the class is on chapter 5 and I am just choosing to read up to chapter 5. Typically, I would just join in at chapter 5. I LOVE reading to my daughter, she is getting so good at reading it won't be long till she won't need me any longer. I also enjoy substituting for the librarian because I get to read to various different classes. These are pleasure readings in my eyes!!
The night that I read to my daughter Jill, she went to her room and began reading several other books. I went up to her room to tell her to get ready for bed. She insisted she read 2 more books, I told her no she needed to get to sleep, as it was past her bedtime. The next morning, she explained to me that she read those 2 books after I went back downstairs, she used her dreamlight to see the words. A dreamlight puts off different colored stars on the ceiling, not proper light for reading. She LOVES to read!! Just like my oldest daughter Jayden!
