March 24th, 2013 ~ Well these last two weeks has been extremely hard to get my hours in for reading. I have had a load of homework and the kids were on springbreak. It was hard on them because Mom had to do homework during the day. We live in the country so going and playing with kids down the street isn't easy to do. I did take them to the Museum of World Treasures on Tuesday, (3/19) they loved it as much as I did. We were there for 3hours. I enjoyed reading about the ancient artifacts and historians. I don't know if this would count as leisure reading, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My dad got my 11 year old daughter the book "Lincoln's Last Days" by Bill O'Reily. My daughter is a bookworm, she has a reading level of 8.4, so he thought this book might interest her, because it interests him. ;) Well, she started it and couldn't understand it. She told me, she got bored with it, I don't think she has been fully educated about Abraham Lincoln. I started reading it and it reminded me of a paper I did in high school about Abraham Lincoln. I had completely forgot about it. The first parts of the book "note to reader" and "the prologue" were just a teaser at how good the book is about to be. This book tells of Lincoln's last six weeks of his life. One of the first things I did not know was that General Robert E. Lee and Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant served together in the Mexican War, but they were enemies in the Civil War.
I had also forgotten about years ago I had done a research paper in high school about Abraham Lincoln, but as I read some of the pertinent facts about him the memories came rushing back. I can't wait to finish this book. I know one day my daughter will appreciate this book!!
